
Meet Matthew Cosham, Senior Account Manager, based in Melbourne. With 24 years in the insurance industry, Matthew is passionate about helping clients protect what matters most. Known for care and understanding of clients’ business and exposures, Matthew works closely with businesses to provide tailored insurance solutions and trusted advice.
1. How did you find your way into the insurance broking world?
Initially through a family connection. My mum worked in workers compensation at CGU and let me know there was availability for roles in the call centre.
2. What were you doing before you joined the insurance industry, and what skills were you able to bring with you?
I came from a sporting background, which taught me the importance of teamwork, communication, and showing up consistently for others. Those skills translated really well into insurance, where collaboration, reliability, and clear communication make a big difference for clients.
3. How would you describe what you do for your clients in one sentence?
Protect their exposure so they can concentrate on running their business.
4. What types of clients or industries do you typically work with?
I work with a range of corporate clients across different industries, providing tailored insurance solutions to suit their needs. I also work with Landscape Victoria, helping to insure their members.
5. What’s one client story or experience that’s really stayed with you?
I once worked with a client whose policy I’d recently taken over. During the review, I recommended they obtain an updated valuation and that we take a closer look at their business interruption cover. When the valuation came back, it showed they were significantly underinsured. We increased the building sum insured, updated their business interruption cover, and extended the indemnity period.
During the following insurance period, the client experienced a fire. Thanks to the updated sums insured and the longer indemnity period, they were able to recover and keep their business operating. It was a powerful reminder of how important thorough reviews and the right advice can be.

Being there and guiding our clients through their most vulnerable time.
8. What’s the most rewarding part of your role?
The most rewarding part of my role is seeing a positive outcome for clients when they need to make a claim. Knowing that the work we have done upfront – understanding their needs, getting the most appropriate cover, and supporting them through the process – genuinely protects them during a stressful time.
9. When you’re not at work, where can we find you?
Spending time with my family and out on the Bay fishing.
