Getting to know Steven Hill, Account Director

Meet Account Director Steven Hill, based in Brisbane. With almost 40 years in the insurance industry, Steven is passionate about helping clients protect what matters most. Known for providing exceptional service and clear concise advice, Steven works closely with all clients to provide tailored insurance solutions and trusted advice.

1. How did you find your way into the insurance broking world?

I started my insurance career as an 18-year-old working in administration and claims at a Sports Insurance specialist agency and broker.

A close family friend suggested I interview for the role because he thought I had the right skillset.

2. What were you doing before you joined the insurance industry, and what skills were you able to bring with you?

I had only finished school a few months earlier and was working part-time while deciding what I wanted to do next. As an 18-year-old who played a lot of sport, starting out in sports insurance claims made sense. I already understood sporting injuries and body mechanics, which helped me learn how to apply the policy to the claimant’s costs.

3. How would you describe what you do for your clients in one sentence?

I always strive to provide my clients with the best cover available at the best price and in that order every time, and pair that with clear advice and exceptional service.

4. What types of clients or industries do you typically work with?

I have clients across a diverse range of industries from transport to hospitality services to manufacturing and professional services firms. I enjoy the generalist nature of my portfolio because it is always different from one day to the next, and never boring.

5. What’s one client story or experience that’s really stayed with you?

A colleague and I won a client that was a manufacturing business in Brisbane and during the quote process, we worked through with them a robust process to review all of their covers and sums insured, Business Interruption in particular.

Three months later they had a fire in the manufacturing plant that was severe and caused them to relocate their manufacturing plant to a new location.

After a few weeks of planning and temporary costs mounting, their insurer granted them indemnity and began making progress payments straight away. Less than twelve months later they had relocated their operation and their insurer continued to support them along the way as their policy should.

It reaffirmed to me the need to review the cover yourself every time and not assume it is correct.

6. What makes Network Insurance House different?
That we put the clients first and work hard, but have a bit of fun while we do it too.

7. What do you value most about the way we work or support our clients?
That the business expects us to put the clients’ interests first. All of the time.

8. What’s the most rewarding part of your role?

Helping clients and colleagues. Whether it is finding a complex cover solution with a colleague or guiding a client through a claim that may be difficult to navigate.

9. When you’re not at work, where can we find you?

Either at home with my family or with friends enjoying a meal.

And if its early in the morning, maybe out on my bicycle trying to keep fit.
